Tyrant by R.K. Lilley is now live!
I was done for. Profoundly screwed.
The issue, of course, was my assistant, Devereux.
She was slowly but surely driving me crazy.
It wasn't supposed to be like this. Hiring her was supposed to bring order to my life.
Instead, she'd brought disorder.
Chaos. Irritation. Malaise.
Comfort. Exuberance. Delight.
I was obsessed with her.
Truly, irrevocably obsessed.
She was stubborn. Standoffish. Painfully honest.
Take no prisoners efficient.
In summary, a termagant — much too young for me.
And even I, oblivious bastard extraordinaire, was aware in some corner of my mind, of every well-laid plan I'd ever had slowly crashing down and exploding into dust.
I was simply no match for Devereux Laurent.

I've never read a RK book I haven't fallen head over heels with. In Flight series is in my top 5 series of All times!!. Her engaging style with unforgettable characters make her my much awaited, rush-to-read-on-day-of-release author. Known for her complex tales that focus on angsty, slow burn love journeys that showcase full spectrum of emotions, this kind of Rom-com-Ish story was least expected from her. But a good writer can make any story outstanding and that is proven by her latest offering - Tyrant.
Told from a completely male POV, which is noteworthy because the Grumpy Writer -Turner Thorn is a blinder wearing, self focused typical male. as RK drops us in his head, the viewpoint is hilarious & so one dimensional, it adds spicy flavour to the story.
His entire thought process is about HIS needs & wants and how HE must manipulate Devereaux "Ro" Laurent's time and energy towards HIM when & where it suits him. what he didn't bargain for is her smart brains and sassy mouth.
"Hiring her was supposed to bring order to my life.
Instead, she’d brought disorder.

It's like fascinating to watch how this man's brain-train travels on a single track going from what his heart desires to her acquiesce station. I was hooting with laughter when things didn't go his way, or she wouldn't "fall in line"
His frustrations and glee, cause he takes sadistic pleasure in riling her up, make for a rip roaring, popcorn worthy audience. I laughed so hard I had to stop to take a breather.
The story progresses slowly cause the journey of Thorn from avoidance to lust, to eventually all the horrible Side effects of love - namely jealousy, petulance, deviancy, was crucial to the characters growth chart.
“Brainwashing is what turned you off of love. Maybe you’re just getting a much needed reprogramming.”
It all just takes him by surprise, and readers just revel in the fact that what we women knew in first chapter, a man takes an entire book to come to the conclusion.
Hence the power brigade of Frankie, Talula, Iris & Ro just shuffle their I Told You So cards smugly and wait for all the chips in his brain to fall in place
It was the most satisfying, lightbulb moment in the book and my MOST FAVORITE
“You’re mad with power. Tripping on it like a petty tyrant.”
A thought struck.
“Hey! You’re the tyrant! How can you live with yourself?”
*I'm dancing in absolute hauteur, my heart full of pompous predictions*
A perfect come to Jesus moment where Turner is like... "Wait a minute!! Have I been played?"
The lust is drench-your-panties sweaty hot. You'll be moister than an oyster reading the book...I had to dig out my vibrator at midnight cause yanno the tingling in "lady pearl"..yep, that happened.
“My fingers inside of you. And I want to taste you. I want to feel you come humming against my tongue.”
“That escalated quickly.”
RK is not only gorgeous to look at, she's a prolific writer too. Her wit and sense of humour shine through her every word, painting her characters with so much energy and pizzazz, they literally bounce off the pages and captivate the reader with the many delightful emotions they stir in us.
The banter is out of this galaxy good. The give and take, push and push harder, glib and slapstick...
“Reprobate.”
“Virgin.”
“Ho.”
“Marry me.”
“You don’t believe in love, remember?”
“What’s that got to do with marriage?”
“Jackass.”
“Prude.”
“Hedonist.”
“Killjoy.”
This was a scorching hot and wickedly funny story that I consumed in one sitting, loved every single minute of it, and missed the moment it ended.
The ending scene is the biggest cherry on top. Never in the history of romance books has a phrase been repeated or a question been asked so nonchalantly throughout, but uttered with so much weightage and sincerity in the end.
“You complete me.”
“Like a pin in a hand grenade,”
I've NEVER EVER read a hero like Turner "Tyrant" Thorn before and I'm claiming him outright!!
5 stars for Madness Incarnate
