{Release Blitz & Book Review}: Things We Never Got Over by Lucy Score

Title: Things We Never Got Over
Author: Lucy Score
Genre: Romance
Release Date: January 13, 2022

Knox is a badass, bar-owning barber who prefers to live his life the way he takes his coffee: Alone. Well, except for his basset hound, Waylon. He doesn’t tolerate drama (Knox, not Waylon. Waylon loves drama.). Especially not when it comes in the form of a stranded runaway bride.

Naomi answered her estranged--some would say evil--twin’s call for help, arriving in rural and rough-around-the-edges Knockemout, Virginia, ready to be the good sister as usual.

Too bad her evil twin hasn’t changed at all. After helping herself to Naomi’s car and cash, Tina leaves her with something unexpected. The 11-year-old niece Naomi didn’t know she had. Dun dun dunnnn!

There are reasons why Knox doesn’t do family drama or high-maintenance women who actually believe in all the bullshit trappings of romance. But since her life imploded right in front of him, the least he can do is help Naomi out of her jam. Even if the uptight good girl is a gigantic pain in his ass. As soon as she stops getting herself into new trouble, he can stop dragging her into his bed and go back to his peaceful, solitary life.

At least, that’s the plan until the trouble turns to real danger.

description

It's a feel good, brings smile to your face, kinda happy story with few lime twists thrown in for good flavour. Lucy writes from the heart, which is clearly evident in the endearing characters she creates.
A small town of Knockemout gets an unexpected visitor, Naomi Witt. who is an exact version of her twin, Tina Witt in physicality. The town never forgets. It holds grudges against the troublemaker so well, that Seeds sown by Tina are now Naomi's to reap.

"Just a crisis on top of a hot mess on top of a dumpster fire. "

She gets her car stolen, belongings stolen, every townsperson is dismissive or downright rude to her,and the cherry on top is the grumpy tattooed barber, Knox Morgan marching up to her and asking her to leave.
All this happens in the first chapter itself.
The entire book is Naomi trying to turn the tide against her, trying to clean up the mess Tina left in her wake while caring for her child. Naomi suffers from a martyrs complex, in my opinion. Her innate impulse to put everybody ahead of her own well being is remarkable noble, but sometimes crosses in self depreciation territory.

"“There’s a difference between taking care of someone because you love them and taking care of someone because you want them to love you,”

There's an entire cast of supporting characters, but Stef stands out as the sarcastic, gay best friend & imparted of oodles of sage advice.
It's sweet, it's funny, it's witty, it's frustrating but it makes the end all the more deserving and satisfying
4.5 stars for emotional fanny packs
