Blurb:
They say it happens when you least expect it.
It did for me.
It started the moment I saw the simple message pop up on my computer screen:
Cameron’s Mac: Hi.
And when I met the eyes of the gorgeous man messaging me from across the coffee shop, I never thought my reply would lead to the most intense, sexual, and passionate relationship of my life.
We both agreed to check our bags at the door and put our future hopes and aspirations on the table.
It worked.
I fell in love with his no holds barred attitude, sexy smirk, and undeniably good heart . . . and for a while we forgot about our baggage. We happily tripped over it to get to the other, neither of us willing to show the contents of our pasts in the off chance it could ruin us.
We built our love on a foundation of gray.
It was life in black and white that threatened to tear us apart.
EXCERPT:
Cameron’s Mac: Hi.
I looked above my laptop and took a deep breath before I accepted his invitation.
Abbie’s Mac: Hi.
Abbie, he’s going to wear your skin! I tried to ignore my inner voice.
Cameron’s Mac: I saw you with the homeless guy.
Abbie’s Mac: Ok?
He took a sip out of his Real Men Love Pomeranians mug and shrugged before he typed.
Cameron’s Mac: So, that was nice of you. Most people in the city just walk on by.
Abbie’s Mac: Oh. Most people do walk past Bennie. But he’s different and I’m not most people.
He lifted a brow and bit his lip.
Cameron’s Mac: I see that.
Cameron’s Mac: Want to have your next cup with me?
Say yes, say yes! It’s only coffee!
Abbie’s Mac: No, thank you.
You idiot.
His brows drew tight with his frown.
Cameron’s Mac: Sure? How about some breakfast?
My pulse raced with the memory of my last reaction to that type of attention and the consequences, and I answered without another thought.
Abbie’s Mac: No, thanks.
His chuckle was deep and covered me, even across the space between us. He bit his full bottom lip as he typed, his smirk still intact.
Fuck. Me. Damn it, Abbie!
Cameron’s Mac: Well, I guess today is not my day.
Abbie’s Mac: That’s all you’ve got?
I had no clue why I sent that message . . . why I was bothered that he didn’t try harder. Just that fucking smirk. It was sexy as hell.
He read my message and shrugged as he typed.
Cameron’s Mac: You seem to enjoy coffee. I don’t have an agenda. You’re beautiful, I noticed. I wanted to drink coffee with you. You said no. I’m going to scrape up the rest of my pride now and head out.
He closed his laptop and stood while I deflated. Damn it. He was being nice. Since when are guys just . . . nice?
Am I a man hater? Have I become that woman?
I spoke up as he slipped his computer into a worn leather bag.
“I’m sorry,” I offered in quick apology. “I was expecting some horrible line or screwed up proposition. The web, messaging, anything that has to do with technology has been hazardous for me. I’ve seen enough unsolicited dick pics for a lifetime. I was just being cautious.” And that was the truth. But I’d said it aloud in verbal vomit. Did I really say “dick pics” out loud?
He chuckled again as he looked down at me from where he stood, then grinned.
“Today isn’t the right day.” The husky baritone of his voice matched the silky hue of his eyes, which seemed to darken as he looked me over.
“No?” I asked in a whisper as I sized up his six-foot-plus frame and imagined the possibilities.
“No,” he said. “Maybe we can not have coffee again sometime?”
He’d tapped out with a simple ‘no’ from me. He couldn’t have been that interested in the first place.
I couldn’t deny the disappointment welling up in my ovaries.
“Okay.” I lifted the last syllable when he didn’t press further.
Cameron pulled out his wallet and set some money on his table then walked over to mine and did the same.
“At least let me buy your next cup.”
After setting the bills down, he stood over me briefly and I caught his scent—purely masculine. I inhaled as much as I could without being obvious. He didn’t smell like a psycho.
Cameron picked up his man–bag while I pictured running my fingers through his messy, inches thick, dark-brown hair.
Don’t let him leave. Tell him you aren’t that big of a bitch. But that would seem desperate. You aren’t desperate. But you are horny. Omg, are you horny??
As if reading my thoughts, I caught another flash of his teeth and had to bite my cheek to keep my reaction in check.
“I’ll see you.”
“Yeah, see you. And thanks,” I said to his retreating back, an octave louder than necessary. “For the coffee,” I added. Outside the window, Cameron bent and exchanged words with Bennie before sticking some cash in his hand.
Well, Abbie. Guess you’ll just have to wait until the next time you roll out of bed and a beautiful man hits on you. Should happen again, you IDIOT!
Once again, my hesitance had cost me. And I couldn’t help but feel like this time it cost me big.
Sagging into my seat, I continued to stare in his direction, watching those broad shoulders walk out of my life.

Kate Stewart lives in Charleston, S.C. with her husband, Nick, and her naughty beagle, Sadie. A native of Dallas, Kate moved to Charleston three weeks after her first visit, dropping her career of 8 years, and declaring it her creative muse. A lover of all things '80s and '90s, especially John Hughes films and rap, she dabbles a little in photography, can knit a simple stitch scarf for necessity only and does a horrible job of playing the ukulele. Aside from running a mile without collapsing, traveling is the only other must on her bucket list. On occasion, she does very well at vodka.

Kate Stewart sure can write a slow burn romance book! This one checked off all the marks. An emotional journey we embark on while reading about Witchy Woman and King of Woo.
Cameron and Abbie are experiencing dating in today’s standard. Air dropping messages to each other while drinking coffee in the local coffee shop. Taking things very slowly…learning about each other. Old school style.
Abbie is a tough cookie to crack. She’s been trying to get her life back in order after a relationship that turned out pretty toxic. Not willing to open up and accept that there are good men out there looking for love.
Cameron is the most loving, giving, good looking man. He is mysterious in revealing his background. But he feels so alive when he is with Abbie. Like it’s the life he has been searching for.
When the coffee shop ‘dating’ turns into actual conversations, there are rules in place before the first real date happens. Both agreeing to the rules, let the happiness begin for these two.
Just like in real life, there are bumps in the road and there are pot holes in the road…then there are actual craters in the road. When the going is going too good…expect the crater to open up and suck you in.
This book was a page turner from the get go. At a couple places, I was like this is too good to be true…poop is going to hit the fan, I can feel it! Commence the tears and sure enough…I could feel the crack starting to spread wide open.
Awesome story of love and what a person(s) is willing to do to make the love a permanent 1 4 3 in their life.

I've had the pleasure of acquainting with Ms Stewart's book, Drive on the last day of last year. What a spectacular read to the end my year on a high note and she had enamoured me with her skillful handling of the complex matters of the heart, with such ease and grace, I had to pick up the next book to read, that was a given. Even if to just flow with the words. The REAL is just the book that sweeps you away. The book is rich in feels and embellished with sparkling emotions, of every colour possible. It's so fascinating to watch characters like Cameron Bledsoe have a chance encounter with Abbie Gorman, in a café, where they randomly start chatting. It's light and cheerful conversation that sets stage for some hot & heavy words to come.![]() leave your baggage at the door, No personal history, no ex talks whatsoeverare the rules, made very clear at the on start. Nothing of THEN tainting the NOW! The funny one liner mugs, bearing witness to the start of a intoxicating relationship, over coffee and random talk. They're both at crucial juncture of their fragile lives, looking for change and strength of bettering themselves. I think they both lacked self respect and self worth at the on start, and now having met each other, they wanted to be a better person for each other. That emotion in itself is a testament of true love, even if they don't know it yet. Ms. Stewart writes love stories like a Fortune teller predicts future. She leaves clues, she gives hints for the readers to figure out the outcome, much before the characters know so. While I rooted for them both to find their way to their HEA, the journey was through much heartache and angst. Their volatile pasts had them both had hiding in their closets, scarring them and leaving them shameful and embarrassed. They share a typical survivor's dilemma, the guilt of moving on and the incessant need to find a motive to get up in the morning and go out in the world. The both characters are so similar, it was painful to see them trying to fumble their way out of the web of misunderstandings. I wanted to pluck them from their predicaments and plant them into clarity, such was my involvement in the story. Being a clever writer, Kate puts in heavy dosage of humour to dilute the intensity a bit. I loved uncoordinated & awkward Abbie trying to run or dance and her hilarious attempts at flirtation. She's as successful at love as she's at running and Always the bridesmaid, never the bride is preparing herself to have a perpetual Slob Saturdays in life. my guardian angel must have taken the year off or decided I was equally pathetic and resigned The best scene was the first kiss they shared standing on the pavement outside the café, it's starts a beautiful phase for them, a blissful bubble, where they are oblivious to the world, wrapped up in their own pink haze. a kiss can be an introduction statement and a promise I plan to make all three when you let me ,but the butterflies that raced through me wouldn't one of a high-school girl. these belong to a woman who had kissed far too many gutter frogs and had finally met her sidewalk Prince. all of my fears were being put to rest daily. I was no longer a woman afraid. I was a woman in love ![]() Things are actually too good to be true, and like they say, if it is TOO good to be true, it actually is. And the pinpricks are many to burst their bubble. we had hindered and hurt ourselves despite our warnings did that make us worse off, volatile or just vulnerable? it made us human There's a gigantic WTF moment, will leave you mouth open and all and though I had figured it out pretty early on, still it didn't soften the blow, even a bit. The pain is experienced by not only Cameron & Abbie, but I doubled up in ache as well. I was a shareholder in misery, I was a witness to their anguish and I wanted to speed up their healing, like they were my own. ![]() Only Kate can create such believable characters, so endearing and lovable and the most fantastic thing is their growth together. They go from strength to strength and are lost without each other. I loved Bree, the Good old southerner who is a straight shooting friend, telling it like it is. I was laughing at Ms. Jen "Gypsy" Zingaro, and her punching water can!! Kat I hated with a passion. Wanted to take my nails on her skin and punch her !! Kate writes with finesse and virtuosity, you always walk away richer and more abundant in knowledge of nuances of Love, than before. Maybe now Max and Rachel will get a book and the process of her giving and us taking and then fawning, will start all over again !! 5 Rain of Abbie Stars |
