I’m fourteen years her senior and she’s my kid’s best friend.
Everything about us is forbidden and wrong, but the closer we became and the more time we spent together, I knew I wouldn’t be able to walk away. Holly was like a force of nature, and I didn’t stand a chance. Falling for her was inevitable.
When an accident leaves her in an induced coma, fighting for her life, I knew she was where I belonged and I’d fight heaven and hell to keep her by my side.
Now, almost a year later, we’ve defeated the odds and we’re stronger than ever. Or so I thought.
We’ve been following the natural progression of our relationship, but when it’s time for us to take the next step, Holly’s hesitant and I don’t know why.
All I know is, she’s my forever, but am I hers?
Holly
Nick's my forever.
I knew that the second I laid eyes on him, and the months we've been together have only solidified that.
My worry is Gabby, Nick's daughter.
She's my best friend--my only friend--and I don't want to lose her.
But I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, because I don't want to lose Nick either. We want to move forward with our relationship, but her disapproval of our being together has put a dampener on my happiness.
That isn't fair to Nick. I want to give him everything, but holding back isn't what he deserves.
All I want is my friend's blessing, but I won't risk losing the man I love in the process.
Something's got to give.
Collapsing on top of me, Nick nuzzles my neck as his labored pants tickle my skin. “God, I’ve missed that.”
Our chests heave with exertion as we come down from our highs. Lacing our fingers together, I run my thumb over his knuckle. “I haven’t gone anywhere,” I remind him.
Groaning, Nick eases from me and drops the used condom into the trash. “I know, I’m sorry. I’ve been a shitty boyfriend lately.” He kisses my forehead and helps me up. “I’ll make it up to you, I promise.”
Locking my arms around his neck, I bring him down for a kiss. “I don’t need you to make it up to me, babe. I know you’re busy and your jobs demanding.” My fingers play with the hair on his nape. “Just remember I’m here, okay? That’s all I ask.”
“I wouldn’t want you anywhere else.”
We haven’t officially moved in together yet, but I’ve started migrating over some of my clothes and books and things that I use every day. It only seems right when I spend practically every night in his bed anyway.
When I finish work in the evening, the last thing I want to do is go back to my cold and lonely apartment. Plus Nick never seems to have a problem with it. If anything, he’s urging me to move more things in. I want to, I really do. I want to fall asleep in his arms every night and wake up to his sweet kisses every morning. But, I also want to give Gabby time to get used to us being together. She didn’t exactly take the news very well when we told her, and I’m afraid how she’ll react once we tell her we’re moving in together. She’s my only friend and I don’t want to lose her, but I don’t want to lose Nick either. It’s a no-win situation. I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I want to move on and plan a future with my boyfriend, but I’m terrified of losing my best friend.
“I don’t plan on being anywhere else.”
“Better fucking not,” Nick growls, swooping me up into his arms and carrying me into his bedroom. “This is our home. You’re my woman. And I’m going to make love to you on our bed.”
Falling into the mattress, a giggle bursts from my lips. “It’s nice to know your priorities are in the right place, Mr. Clayton.”
Winking, he settles between my legs. “Always.” He licks my nipple. “Now, I believe you had something that needed my attention?”
God, yes.
