Beautifully penned, colored with tender strokes of freshly blooming love, it's a part coming-of-age, part finding a soulmate story that took me by surprise in its simple dewiness. A broken ramp linking two windows forms a bridge of sorts between Two teens- Pixie Rae & Gaze Jones, sharing the similar life, living situations and future filled with bleakness. They've built their nest five stories above the squalid, dangerous neighborhood they are forced to inhabit. 
"mostly, we were safe. Sort of like we were in a den of rattlesnakes that were hibernating." 



Holding on to the threads of companionship and friendship to hang on to their dear lives. It's the perfect escape bubble of coffee can notes, a stubborn pigeon "Fat Asshole" and to escape the heat and stink of their poverty, they run around in broken hydrant showers and filthy riversides, forgetting their penury in shared pizzas and melting creamsciles.



Page one had me stunned splat. I could feel the dangerous undertones, could sense the impending doom, the inevitable slap of fate which was just sound the corner
The sheer courage and fiestiness of Pixie was both refreshing and heartening. They take turns playing the savior and in doing so strengthen their bonds. They grow closer as they grow and nothing, not even distance can tear them apart



I loved the hopes and small blessings, like Sam, Mike, Ronna and the best of all character- Austin. He's a Fairy Godmother incarnate, complete with lace and makeup.
Theres sweetness and there's bitterness in teh same breath. Dark clouds loom over Pixie and Gaze but Debra gives everyone of them a silver lining 
I enjoyed it immensely. Hope she gives Austin his own book ❤️
