A Riveting tale of budding love which is on a path to cul-de-sac. A dead end because like Cinderella, Elisabeth is hog tied by her father and subjected to a restricted lifestyle. Her heart isn't aloud to flutter, her emotions are nipped, her dreams have had their wings clipped.
"Elisabeth Mortimer Wells had wings and flawless skin that changed colors, depending on my mood. And when my the handsome, dark-haired Fey lord kissed me, I was always the same emerald color of his eyes."
She's grounded, trapped and helpless. The only respite is her brother James, but then...😮
In between all this melee is her to mentor, emotional abuser Duke Tremaine who lures her to a camp where she stumbles upon Carter Bosh.
"Lord, but I’m a sucker for a girl who likes music enough to dance all by herself. Add to that how damn pretty she looks from here and it’s like waving a red flag at a bull. But, a bull who knows its days of goring matadors are behind it."
He can be her savior if only he came to terms with his own dark patches and then maybe they can both travel to the sparkling future
"I’m the only introvert.
The only artist.
The only one who needed glasses.
The only one who didn’t need braces.
The only one who had violent fits in his sleep and fought his way through high school.
The only one whose anxiety can be crippling."
The story is still almost like an introduction to the tempestous relationships to come. Book 1 sets the stage for a rocky road, full of twists and turns, so it's only obvious that this would end in a cliffhanger. Good thing we don't have to wait for long!!!
Dylan writes from the heart, her stories carry a lot of soul. Her characters are human, flawed and imperfect...which adds to the perfection of the story
