Be prepared to have a stack of tissues and order a giant bottle of wine, because this book is simply mayhem for the hearts. Hauntingly passionate and stunning in revelations, the book was like a sledgehammer to my heart, kept pummeling even when I was down. A major Cryfest that simply can be summed up as a tragic love story of the girl who eats lunch in the park and a homeless street musician- Piper & Blue
He doesn’t have anything other than his guitar, his duffel bag and all it contains, and his dog.
The first chapter had me like- what an unusual story...how will it pan out...maybe the guy rises to fame and riches. But Nope!. Carina pulls the rug right under your sensible feet and you go flying in the air, not knowing right from wrong or up from down. There's a major upheaval at 36% and I was livid and looking to smash something...someONE!!
I was angry at Piper, why is she such a doormat, where is her self worth....but you know what, I fell in love with Blue, I couldn't let go of him, I gave him so many chances , so why shouldn't she.
To say this story is an emotional rollercoaster is the understatement of the year!!
"I was a fucking tumbleweed, a twisted up mess of dirt and weeds bouncing around in the wind.”
I’m going to make you dirty, too. And it’s never going to wash off.
And true to his promise, he dirties her, breaks her with his bare hands and walks all over her pieces.
Blue comes like a roaring tornado in her life, throws everything around and when he leaves there's devastation and destruction. She doesn't even get the time to gather the shattered pieces of her life. She's literally on her knees!
It's gravityless simulation, you're flying high one moment, banging into walls the next, falling down at warp speed and land with a thump on your ass at last. The shocks just keep on coming, up To the LAST MINUTE!!
BUT...its also a heart touching story of struggles of a man with broken mind. The monsters plague him every minute of every day. The voices in his head boom into his ears and his fight is valiant and one sided.
“It’s like living with a monster in your head, Piper. And it just fuckin’ owns you, consumes you, bleeds you, tortures you. It doesn’t let you sleep. It doesn’t let you be happy. It doesn’t let you trust. So you do what it says just to shut it the fuck up, to try to get just a tiny amount of peace, and then it starts all over again.”
I loved piper but I'm totally, stupidly in love with Evan Von Blue. He just stole my heart with his charming smile and deep smoky voice. Him & Acorn are just right there in front of my eyes and I'm the girl eating my sandwich in front of him.
But one thing that's a constant throughout the story is the intensity and authenticity of Blue's love for Piper. Even though it sometimes gets overpowered by his demons, it's there nonetheless. Unquestionable, genuine, deep love

Piper I must admire for her loyalty and tenacity. That girl is purely driven by heart and just thrives on compassion. Her goodness just radiates and unending patience is the perfect fit for the chaotic whirlwind, that is Blue. No other woman would be his soulmate other than her
"People can’t change who they are inside, or how they feel, or how they’re wired, Josh. That doesn’t mean they should be dumped and forgotten.”
Two issues I had- I needed more of Blue's POV, because the one sided narrative had me pitying Piper and had difficulty approving her decisions.
Secondly it was a tad too long in the middle. the tautness would've added an edge to this story.
But it still wrings your heart dry, dessicates it of the tears and just sweeps clean all the emotions in a basket. I cried through the entire book, just painful, hurting tears. And though shocked and saddened at the end, it doesn't make me love it less even a bit.
Go pick up this story it's EPIC!!
