He was an artist. She was his muse.

To everyone in town, Abel Adams was the devil's spawn, a boy who never should have been born. A monster.

To twelve year-old Evie Hart, he was just a boy with golden hair, soft t-shirts and a camera. A boy who loved taking her picture and sneaking her chocolates before dinner. A boy who made her feel special.

Despite her family's warnings, she loved him in secret for six years. They met in empty classrooms and kissed in darkened church closets. Until they couldn't.

Until the time came to choose between love and family, and Evie chose Abel.

Because their love was worth the risk. Their love was the stuff of legend.

But the thing about legends is that they are cautionary tales. They are made of choices and mistakes. And for Abel and Evie, the artist and the muse, those mistakes come in the form of lights, camera, sex.

NOTE: This is NOT a paranormal or a priest romance.

Author Bio

Writer of bad romances. Aspiring Lana Del Rey of the Book World.

Saffron is a big believer in love (obviously). She believes in happily ever after, the butterflies and the tingling. But she also believes in edgy, rough and gutsy kind of love. She believes in pushing the boundaries, darker (sometimes morally ambiguous) emotions and imperfections.

The kind of love she writes about is flawed just like her characters. And she hopes by the end of it, you’ll come to root for them just as much as she does. Because love, no matter where it comes from, is always pure and beautiful.

She is represented by Meire Dias of Bookcase Agency

5 Outstanding Stars!!!

I’ve read Saffron Kent’s previous 2 books and watched her grow in her writing from A War like Ours to The Unrequited. She bloomed in The Unrequited and fully blossomed in Gods and Monsters! I can honestly say that with her writing as beautiful as it is in Gods and Monsters, this author has found her groove. Stay on this path because only good things can come from it!!!

Evie Hart has always been different, never wearing shoes, always in her treehouse, reading, writing and doing her best not to upset her mother. It was going as well as to be expected in her life.

The day came when a truck pulled into the driveway across the street. A home that never got visitors. A home you never went to. Nothing good has come out of that home. The townspeople prayed for the monsters who once lived there. Chased them right out of town.

Abel Adams is a monster. One that should have never been born. Forced to go back to the town that chased his parents away. At 15 years old, he is battling a war. A war against the townspeople and himself.

This story of love that starts from a young age by two innocent kids who only know of the stories they have overheard, gossip told by those who don’t know. A story that shows how children are innocent until they are formed into what and who their parents want them to be.

Abel and Evie are willing to take a risk because they believe in each other. They have spent countless hours in the treehouse, they have met in church each week, they have formed a bond that is stronger than the rumors. They are willing to take the risk, all in the name of Love <3 nbsp="" span="">

They knew it wouldn’t be easy. They were willing to beat the odds and tame the monster. But when it all comes to pot that is boiling over, were the odds truly not stacked for them? Is the camera too much that the artist has to give up his art to have true happiness?

What a RIDE!!! Saffron hit a homerun with this story.

Shameless, Reckless love, a little painful, a lot Glorious
This is the second book by Saffron that I've read and loved. Her exploration of some touchy subjects has me astounded here. Looking at some delicate issues she's touched upon, like small town bias and some big city anonymity, that drives people to rebel against the norm gives layers to the story and as you delve in them you come out stronger and surer in your faith. Could be Faith in God, a supreme being, yourself, your religion or your love . Faith being the driving force behind this story where the Town Princess, Evie, who's firmly esconsed in a deeply religious family in the Bible-belt and when the town is "invaded" by the Monster Child, how people see their core values shaking, brings the story to a twist.

This is a tale of Obsessive love that starts in a tree house, high up and away from the realities of the ground. Evangeline Elizabeth Hart "Evie" has built a haven for herself. Yellow sunshine room, a secret hiding place that shuts out the cruelties of everyday life. Her strict and harsh Mother, a subserviant and docile father, their restrictive church and neighbourhood and some pretty close minded families, make up Prophetstown in Iowa. One day a rusty truck shatters their peaceful Godly existence and out jumps Abel Adams, the child who shouldn't have been born.

But he was, and here he is! Angry, messed up and carrying a block on his shoulder. My heart was breaking for him, how can a child be held responsible for his existence and ostracized for it !
The legend of David Adams and Delilah Evans.
called the dark times, when love had died and the purity of it was stained.

The product-Abel , who's shunned and avoided by the entire town population, but who captures Evie's young heart with his smile, sketches and camera !
I do realize something. Something pretty epic. Abel Adams is a god. Because only gods can stop time and freeze moments, if they want to. Only gods can do what he does with a camera.
Young Heart Eyes make him her own Personal God to be worshipped and loved in secrecy, with gay abandon. The nubile couple is just a touch ahead of the vicious hands of the stuck-up prejudiced townsfolk and one day they aren't!!. Cruel hands tear them apart and how !
My heart broke at this point.
The story makes a full turn and like water finding a way about, rushes past this town and people and moves in a new direction.
With a new resolve and new dreams they break old shackles and sprout wings.
“Fuck God, Pixie. Fuck the world. We’ll be our own gods. You be mine and I’ll be yours.”
Fate takes them to a place where they can dissappear in the crowds.
Invisible. Anonymous. Untraceable!
I have a feeling that New York City has a place for everyone : the runaways, the misunderstood, the lovers, the strugglers, the drifters, the successful. In this city, our love will grow. This is our adventure now.

The new world brings new hopes, new dreams, new life but the grass is not always greener on the other side and harsh reality slaps them in the face !
A legend of Abel and his Pixie! Pixie saw him as her God, Abel knew of the monster within him, But they were mere mortals.
Humans.
And humans make mistakes, they hurt and Hurt People hurt people
This story gives me shivers as it is eerily similar to the First Couple , Adma & Eve
“They got cast out of the garden because he was stupid enough to eat the apple.”

Abel loves Evie crazily, madly, deeply and it becomes too big for his heart. The monstrosity of his love, fueled by revenge just clouds his mind and intent and it balloons to the point that his perception changes. What should've been in his eyes gets captured in the lens for all the world to see. And in the process, love becomes toxic.
I've sat a while after I finished because my heart is full yet I'm struggling with words on how to justly review the book
I'm seeing some negative reviews and honestly I get it. Each person reads differently and I walked away with something unique from the book and that is probably enough for me. The wording and the pace is very authentic. At no point did i feel that this was inconceivable or unbelievable.
So the lesson learnt is -Forgiveness !
A French philosopher once said that every man is born a blank slate. No one is either good or bad, not until they come in contact with other people. Only then, a man takes shape and becomes something, a monster or a god. Often times, both. That’s the beauty of being a human. You can be whatever you want to be. You can be touched by things: anger, hate, envy, love, lust. You can forgive, forget, hold on, let go. You can do anything; there are endless possibilities.
And Pixies Immense Unshakeable Love makes the Monster, into her God.
A poignant journey of a girl from womanhood to motherhood and a story about a golden-haired boy. People called him the monster but a blue-eyed girl thought he was her god. He was neither. He was only a boy, who drew, who wanted friends, and whose favorite fruit was an apple. But most of all, he was a boy who felt things deeply. He was a boy who loved , with everything that he was.
5 " Apple Pie " Stars
